Speak up this Advent

Food on every table - Make a difference
During the season of Advent, we wait in hopeful anticipation for the joy of Christmas. We prepare a place for God’s promise of peace, both in our hearts and in our lives. We reflect on meaningful ways to share with those in need.
As the Canadian government works to respond to the needs of Canadians facing the harsh realities of rising food costs this holiday season, we also want to ensure our global neighbours receive needed support to enable them to feed their families and communities.
If decision makers don’t hear from their constituents, they may assume people don’t care about global hunger.
As an advocate, you have an important opportunity to speak up for farmers on the frontlines of climate change. When we come together and speak up, our voices make a difference.
Join us in sending a postcard to our government that expresses support for Canada to act on the values of justice, compassion and generosity to the world.
A copy of this postcard will also be sent to the Minister of International Development, and your Member of Parliament:
To the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Finance,
As we enter into the Christmas season – a time when many share the gift of hope and celebrate around tables with abundant food – I want to share my deep concern for our global neighbours in need due to the growing food crisis.
I encourage Canada to respond generously in Budget 2024 with investments, through Canada’s aid budget, that will grow hope for small-scale food producers, especially women, as they adapt to climate change – while contributing to more sustainable and resilient food systems.
This Advent will you speak up?
The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. (John 1:9)
