Emergency Relief and Development Overseas (ERDO) is supporting the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Zimbabwe with a six-month humanitarian response project in Zaka District of Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe.
This district faces a critical food security situation and is classified as IPC 3. Besides other eligible project participants, the response will also target the most vulnerable households who participate in the recently committed, multi-year food security project #3221.
Zaka District has been severely affected by climate change, with erratic rainfall patterns, prolonged dry spells and an ongoing drought triggered by the 2024 El Niño phenomenon. This has led to poor agricultural yields and food shortages, exacerbating the vulnerability of communities in this area. Hyperinflation and the rising cost of basic commodities have made it increasingly difficult for households to access food. Recent assessments indicate that over 60% of households in these wards cannot meet their daily nutritional needs.
PAG Zimbabwe will provide five monthly food basket transfers to 730 households (4,305 individuals). The monthly food basket will consist of 5 kg of maize meal, 1 kg beans and 0.5 litres of oil. A total of 107.63 mt of maize meal, 21.53 mt of beans, 10,762 liters of oil will be provided over the six-month project.
