Calculating the nutritional value of a ration

In this activity, students will learn about the types of emergency food rations that are distributed in times of humanitarian crisis. To explore the practical application of math and nutritional knowledge, students will use information that is provided to calculate and discuss the nutritional value of proposed daily rations.

This activity is intended to extend the learning of the Ration Meal activity, produced by Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The Ration Meal activity can be found at foodgrainsbank.ca/education. Calculating the nutritional value of a ration can be done separately, though you are encouraged to consult the Ration Meal activity to learn more about food rations.
