Canadian Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran World Federation Haiti, and Fondation Nouvelle Grand’Anse (FNGA) are partnering on a food assistance project in the Grand’Anse Department Haiti.
Food insecurity in Haiti is rapidly worsening due to the combined impacts of economic crisis, widespread insecurity, climatic shocks, and shrinking livelihood opportunities. Nationally, around 5.7 million people were in crisis (IPC 3) or worse between September 2025 and February 2026, with conditions expected to deteriorate further during the March–June 2026 lean season. High inflation, currency depreciation, and disrupted supply routes have sharply elevated food prices, eroding household purchasing power while income opportunities decline.
In the Grand’Anse Department, vulnerability is heightened by geographic isolation, fragile infrastructure, and heavy reliance on climate-sensitive agriculture and small trade. Hurricane Melissa in late 2025 caused major crop losses, flooding, and damage to roads and markets, further restricting food access. Rural households—especially in Jérémie and Roseaux regions—face depleted food stocks, limited employment, high market dependency, and rising prices, forcing many to adopt negative coping strategies to meet basic food needs.
The project will provide cash transfers of CAD $169 / month / household for 3 months. The project will reach 3,545 individuals in 709 households.
