Emergency Relief and Development Overseas (ERDO) and LM International Sudan are cooperating on a food assistance project in the North Kordofan region of Sudan.

Since April 15, 2023, the ongoing civil war has severely restricted movement, disrupted both market and agricultural activities, and depleted food supplies in an area that was already facing severe land degradation and declining soil productivity. There are widespread cash shortages, and staple grain prices are projected to rise by 200%, further limiting access to food and forcing households to resort to harmful coping mechanisms. Over half of Sudan’s population—approximately 25.6 million people— encountered IPC 3 (Crisis) or worse conditions from June to September 2024, with 755,000 individuals facing IPC 5 (catastrophic) conditions and 8.5 million people facing IPC 4 (emergency) levels. Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities, particularly women, are among the most affected groups in the targeted areas of North Kordofan.

The project will provide monthly, in-kind assistance of 40 kg of sorghum, 5 kg of lentil, 2 liters of vegetable oil and 1 kg of salt for four months to 2,250 households (11,250 individuals).
