Adventist Relief and Development Agency (ADRA) Canada is supporting Adventist Relief and Development Agency (ADRA) Venezuela with a six month humanitarian response project in the communities of 25 de Marzo and Francisca Duarte in the State of Bolivar, Venezuela.
Venezuela has experienced a complex and prolonged economic crisis, compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic. Between 2011 and 2020, Venezuela lost 86% of its gross domestic product, agricultural production declined significantly and income dropped for many Venezuelans. As a result of this complex crisis, between 3 and 4 million people are expected to face IPC 3 or worse food insecurity through September 2023. 8.3% of the population is severely food insecure and 40% is moderately food insecure.
In response, ADRA Venezuela will provide six monthly food basket transfers to 1,169 households (7,014 individuals). The monthly food basket of 58.6 kg will consist of rice, corn meal, black beans, pasta, oil, margarine, sugar and salt. A total of 411 metric tons of food will be provided over the six-month project.
