This year has been filled with multiple initiatives led by our public engagement and public policy teams to engage Canadians from across the country in the fight against hunger.
On October 16, we acknowledged World Food Day with a prayer and worship event hosted by Glenlea Mennonite Church in Glenlea, Manitoba. In November, Foodgrains Bank hosted Ugandan speaker Shepherd Tipo Telwia (World Renew partner staff from the Church of Uganda – Nebbi Diocese), who spoke in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan about her work. And in February, supporters from across the country travelled on a learning tour to Kenya to dive deeper into the work partners are doing to end hunger, and tell their stories when they return.
“I witnessed the ripple effect of women – like Nature+ lead farmer Leah – having direct access to banking (through a village savings and loans association established by Africa Christian Churches & Schools, partner of Canadian Baptist Ministries) in order to reinvest in climate resilient livelihoods,” said Kenya learning tour participant Wendy Woodhouse. “Their communities were strengthened and mindsets were changed on an intergenerational level. That leads to sustainable development and improved food security.”
