As we work towards our vision of a world without hunger, we are grateful the Government of Canada continues to support this mission. In 2025-26, support from the Government of Canada included:
Launching new program in the Philippines
In response to the frequency and intensity of climate shocks in the Philippines, we’re growing our work through a new six-year, $9.4 million program that will help 15,000 farmers build climate resilience and disaster risk reduction, implemented by the locally-based partners of ADRA Canada, Alongside Hope, and ERDO – Emergency Relief and Development Overseas. The long-term effort is funded by Global Affairs Canada as part of its disaster risk reduction work, with Foodgrains Bank donations contributing five per cent of the cost.
Responding to the world’s largest humanitarian crisis
In early 2025, the Government of Canada provided $4 million to Foodgrains Bank to respond to the Sudan crisis. This funding enabled the local partners of our members ADRA Canada, Alongside Hope, and ERDO to assist 45,348 people in highly food-insecure areas of Sudan. Of these, 75 per cent were people who had been displaced by the conflict.
Additionally, the number of households practicing the most severe coping strategies (such as selling assets or borrowing food from neighbours) decreased by 90 per cent, demonstrating the impact of humanitarian assistance in restoring food security during crisis.
This year’s Long-Term Institutional Support grant
Through our Long-Term Institutional Support grant agreement with the Government of Canada, Foodgrains Bank received $25 million in 2025-26 (as a 4:1 match to Canadian donations) for the provision of emergency food assistance in places experiencing crisis.
This year, the funding supported:
- 26 new projects in 12 countries around the world
- Meeting critical food needs for 246,149 people
- Emergency nutrition services for 110,935 people
