World Renew Canada is supporting Sampan’Asa Momba ny Fampandrosoana (SAF-FJKM) with a five-month humanitarian response project in the Municipality of Amboditandroroho in response to cyclones Fytia and Gezani, which struck Madagascar in January and February 2026.

The cyclones resulted in widespread flooding, damaged homes and infrastructure, and have destroyed rice crops. An estimated 478,000 people have been affected by Cyclone Gezani, of whom 382,000 are facing acute food insecurity due to crop damage and loss of livelihoods.

SAF-FJKM will provide an initial cash transfer of MGA 280,000 (approximately $90 CAD), followed by three months of in-kind distributions of rice (60 kg), beans (9 kg), and oil (2L) to 665 households (3,325 people). This project is funded through the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance (CHAF) fund of the Humanitarian Coalition.
