Tearfund Canada and the Diocese of Central Tanganyika (DCT) are partnering on an agriculture and livelihoods project in Dodoma Region, Tanzania.
Households in these semi-arid communities face food security challenges due to shocks like drought, famine, and pests. and population pressure. An analysis of gender dynamics also shows that women tend to be responsible for more domestic work.
The project builds on a previous project (2982) through mechanization of conservation agriculture (CA), commercial seed production, small-scale irrigation with solar-powered pumps, agro-processing and value addition of sunflower and groundnuts, grain aggregation and marketing, beekeeping and honey processing, gender empowerment, and keeping improved breeds of dairy and meat goats. The project will also introduce mechanized threshing to improve grain quality and reduce labor intensity. Existing village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) groups will serve as the entry point for all interventions, ensuring broad participation and impact.
The project will reach 2,000 individuals in 400 households.
