Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is supporting Trócaire Somalia with a humanitarian nutrition response project in four districts of the Gedo Region in Somalia.

Ongoing cycles of conflict, insecurity, natural disasters, economic depression, and high inflation continue to affect already vulnerable households across Somalia, which has led to economic and food insecurity. Malnutrition is a particular challenge, in the Gedo region, 42% of children are facing Moderately Acute or Severely Acute Malnutrition.

This project will continue to provide life-saving nutrition services to children under five and pregnant and lactating women amongst vulnerable Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and marginalized riverine communities. Specifically, this project will support stabilization centres, an outpatient therapeutic program, targeted supplementary feeding, and nutritional outreach services to the community. Infant and young child feeding practices training will also be provided to mothers and caretakers (including fathers) to improve nutrition.

The project will reach 9,977 individuals in 6,793 households.
