World Renew is supporting ZOA Dorcas South Sudan with a six-month humanitarian response project in Aweil East, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, South Sudan.
Aweil East was already experiencing a humanitarian crisis before the civil war in Sudan broke out due to flooding and insecurity. As a border region, Aweil East has been receiving large numbers of South Sudanese returnees and Sudanese refugees. These returnees and refugees arrive with few assets and are highly vulnerable to food insecurity.
ZOA Dorcas will provide four monthly cash distributions to 1,775 households (approximately 8,875 individuals). Households will receive $15 USD per person per month. In addition, 750 of the returnee households will receive seeds and tools to restart vegetable production and a separate 750 host community households (approximately 3,750 individuals) affected by flooding will also receive seeds. In total, 2,525 households will be reached through the project.
