Canadian Baptist Ministries is supporting Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development/ Middle East Revive and Thrive (LSESD/MERATH) with a 12-month food assistance project in Zahle, Bekaa Governorate, Lebanon.

Lebanon continues to host the highest number of refugees per capita in the world including up to 1.5 million Syrian refugees (as of October 2021) that have fled from the Syria war, now in its eleventh year. In the last two years, Lebanon has also been facing unprecedented economic, financial, social and health crises which has strained resources and resulted in high food insecurity rates across the country.

In response, LSESD/MERATH will provide 12 months of in-kind food transfers to vulnerable Syrian refugee and Lebanese households. Each month, households will receive one or two boxes (amount depending on household size) of food consisting of rice, spaghetti, tuna, sardines, chickpeas, beans, oil, sugar tomato paste, salt and flour.

The project plans to reach 3,500 people (947 households) with this assistance.
