NutritionOur nutrition projects reduce malnutrition in families through nutrition education, provision of clean water, and special feeding programs.

We give priority to pregnant and nursing mothers and children under the age of five.

In some projects, we teach mothers about the importance of breastfeeding their babies whenever possible, and provide special fortified supplementary foods for extremely malnourished children. In other projects, we work with families to help them start vegetable gardens so they can provide nutritious food for their families themselves.

In 2018-19, we committed $2 million for nutrition programming.

An example of our nutrition programming is in Nicaragua through our member Presbyterian World Service & Development. Before we began this project, nearly half of all children under the age of 5 in the neighborhoods we are working in were malnourished. This project is currently working with such families to teach them about proper nutrition, and proper child feeding practices.
