On August 26, Nepal and Tibet were struck by devastating flash floods caused by a suspected Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF). A sudden surge of water near the Nepal-Tibet border swept through communities, causing widespread destruction, damaging homes and infrastructure, disrupting livelihoods, and causing significant loss of life. At least 920 people in Nepal and Tibet have lost their lives, and more than 4,700 people remain missing. Rescue operations continue but remain challenging due to damaged transportation networks, unstable terrain, and ongoing risks from landslides and flooding.
