Emergency Relief and Development Overseass (ERDO) and LMI Sudan, supported by their local partner AORD are cooperating on a food assistance project in North Kordofan, Sudan.
North Kordofan is facing a severe food emergency driven by escalating conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Recent assessments suggest that the region faces a high risk of famine between October 2025 and May 2026. Intensified fighting in late October, particularly in Bara town, displaced over 41,000 people across North and South Kordofan. Humanitarian access remains heavily restricted due to active combat and risks to aid workers, leaving many trapped without assistance. The situation has been aggravated by economic collapse and environmental degradation. Unemployment affects nearly half the population, and inflation is severe. Displaced individuals are arriving in severely weak conditions. With limited access to food and water, malnutrition is rising alongside outbreaks of diseases like cholera. Families are resorting to extreme coping strategies, such as eating only one meal a day.
Each household will receive a monthly allocation that includes 40 kg of sorghum, 5 kg of lentils, 2 liters of vegetable cooking oil, and 1 kg of salt for 4 months. The project aims to reach 4,420 households comprising 22,100 individuals.
