Our Stories
3 Hunger on the Hill participants on their way to their meetings.

When we speak up for international aid, we’re advocating for life-changing support for communities around the world experiencing hunger.

“As a minister from Zimbabwe with over a decade of experience in rural and urban ministry, I’ve witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of hunger and climate change on small-scale farmers,” says Pine River United Church minister Wonder Chimvinga, who attended Hunger on the Hill in October 2024. The experience “allowed me to connect my faith, academic focus, and lived experience to advocate for policies that support vulnerable farmers in the Global South,” he says.

Saskatchewan resident Roxana Tiefenbach, who sent an e-postcard earlier this year to our government expressing support for Canada to act on the values of justice, compassion, and generosity in the fight against hunger, says the postcard helped her show decision makers what is most important to her.

“It is what God asks of us to share the bountiful supply of food we have in our world with those who lack that supply. Sending a postcard is another way I can help do that, because it increases what I can personally give, to what we as a blessed country can give.”

A better world starts with your voice. Join Canadians across the country like Wonder and Roxana in calling on our government for a strong international aid program to support people facing hunger around the world.

A VOICE AT THE TABLE

In Matthew 22, Jesus summarizes the two most important commandments: Love God and love your neighbour, with ‘neighbours’ being anyone and everyone around the world. As we look around the world, we often see injustice.

How can we support our neighbours in these circumstances? At Foodgrains Bank, we’re committed to four key actions: give, pray, learn, and advocate.

Using your voice to advocate in support of our global neighbours is one of the ways that we can come together to fight world hunger in partnership, because together, we’re stronger.
