Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) is grateful for the generosity Canadians showed during its year-end campaign supporting an end to global hunger through Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
At the end of December, $9,650 was donated to Foodgrains Bank, comprising $4,650 given by Ontario farmers, and a matching fund of $5,000 by Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario.
“2023 was a challenging year for farmers in many aspects, but still with increasing financial strain in our sector, we were able to come together as one and support this great cause,” says CFFO general manager Tom Tavani. “As Christian farmers, we are called to help those in need, and we answer that call year after year.”
Tavani’s sentiment is echoed by Foodgrains Bank director of resources and public engagement Christina Philips.
“So many of the people who have to live with the reality of hunger around the world are small-scale farmers, so to see CFFO match their members donations during the Christmas giving season for the third year in a row is very encouraging,” she says. “The work we’re doing wouldn’t be possible without the support of Canadians who continue to give a portion of their ‘harvests’ to further the year-round efforts of our members and their partners in the fight against hunger.”
In 2022-23, Foodgrains Bank provided $79.8 million of assistance for 1,103,795 people experiencing hunger in 36 countries, and in 2023 was recognized for the sixth year in a row as a Top 10 Impact Charity.
Funds raised through this joint campaign will support Foodgrains Bank partners around the world to provide emergency food for families affected by situations such as violent conflict or extreme weather, and long-term agricultural programs to help lift families out of poverty.
