Connection to Canadian Foodgrains Bank
When you give, your contribution can be credited to the World Renew account. World Renew decides how those funds, and any CIDA matching funds, will be used.
World Renew receives requests for food from its overseas partners. Each request is reviewed to ensure the food and support provided will improve the lives of the people receiving the assistance – in both the short and long terms.
Once planning is complete (including details to ensure safe and reliable delivery), Canadian Foodgrains Bank arranges the purchase and shipping of the food. World Renew often works together with other Foodgrains Bank church members on shipments.
World Renew (formerly Christian Reformed World Relief Committee) has been a member of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank since 1983.
The Christian Reformed Church (CRC) is one of the Calvinist churches which find their origin in the Low Countries, the Netherlands and Belgium, during the Reformation. In the hope of finding a better life, members of these churches left the Netherlands during the early eighteen hundreds for the USA, and again after the Second World War, this time mainly to Canada. Its membership in Canada is around 80,000.
World Renew is the Relief and Community Development Organization founded and supported by the membership of the CRC in North America. Together with national churches or Christian NGOs, World Renew works with people and their communities to create permanent, positive change in Christ’s name. The organization was founded in 1962, to respond to needs of the survivors of the Korean war. Very early on the organization added long-term community development to its organizational emphasis.
