Our Stories

As we work toward our vision of a world without hunger, we are grateful the Government of Canada continues to support this mission by partnering with the Foodgrains Bank and our members.

In 2024-25, support from the Government of Canada included:

Renewal of Long-Term Institutional Support grant

In September 2024, the Government of Canada granted $100 million over four years to Foodgrains Bank and its member agencies for the provision of emergency food assistance in places experiencing humanitarian crises. This funding of up to $25 million a year will contribute to programs in countries such as Afghanistan, Haiti, and Syria, through the work of our members’ locally-based, trusted partners who remain committed to helping people get the urgent assistance they need – even in situations that are very challenging.

This year, 25 humanitarian projects in 13 countries were approved with this funding, reaching an anticipated 247,369 people.

Response to Sudan crisis

In March 2025, the Government of Canada announced a $4 million grant to Foodgrains Bank and its member agencies to provide emergency food assistance for over 28,000 people affected by the rapidly worsening hunger situation in Sudan.

More than two years into the conflict, Sudan has become the world’s largest humanitarian crisis and has triggered the mass displacement of millions of people. Foodgrains Bank has five active projects in Sudan, including three emergency food assistance projects which are funded through this grant.

Humanitarian Coalition

As a member of the Humanitarian Coalition, we are grateful to collaborate with other leading Canadian agencies in our sector in times of emergency. In October 2024, Foodgrains Bank participated in the Humanitarian Coalition campaign for Lebanon, responding to rising humanitarian needs as the country faced violent attacks.

And as an HC member, we also received an additional $797,357 in funding from the Government of Canada, which allowed local implementing partners in Lebanon to provide assistance to people in need.
