This activity is designed to help students understand how climate change is affecting soil moisture levels, and how this is affecting people’s ability to feed themselves. Specifically, students will engage in a hands-on experiment with water levels in soil to gain a clear picture of the kinds of problems facing farmers in many vulnerable locations.
Learning objective: To have students learn about a negative impact of climate change on farming, specifically the relationship between soil moisture and planting conditions.

Recommended time: 30 minutes for activity and discussion. Additional activity could be done at a later time.
