The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) is supporting Church World Service (CWS) with a four-month humanitarian response project in Laisamis and North Horr Sub Counties in Marsabit County, Kenya.

Since 2020, communities in northern Kenya and across the Horn of Africa have been experiencing one of the most severe drought situations in forty years. The scarcity of resources caused by the drought have fueled resource-based conflicts in affected areas. The situation has also been compounded by rising food prices due to depressed regional crop production and other global events. Despite some recent rains in 2023, emergency food security outcomes are expected to continue as households are yet to recover from severely depleted assets and livelihoods after years of drought conditions.

As a continuation of previous drought-related food responses in Marsabit, CWS will provide three months of food basket transfers to 2,700 households (16,200 individuals) deemed to be at IPC 4. As with previous responses, the monthly household food basket will consist of 50 kg of maize flour, 10 kg of beans, 3 litres of cooking oil and 0.5 kg of iodized salt. In addition, households with pregnant and lactating women and children under two (approximately 50% or 1,350 households) will also receive a monthly ration of 5 kg of Corn-Soya Blend Plus Plus (CSB++). A total of 405 mt of maize flour, 81 mt of beans, 24,300 litres of oil, 4 mt of salt, and 20.25 mt of CSB++ will be provided.
