ADRA Canada is supporting ADRA Lebanon with a five-month emergency food assistance and livelihoods response in Beirut. On August 4, 2020, a series of explosions at the Beirut Port destroyed most of the facility and devastated surrounding neighborhoods. 12,000 households are facing hunger because of the blast. The situation is compounded by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Lebanon’s declining economy.

Immediately after the blast, ADRA Lebanon responded by providing households with store cards so that they could purchase food and essential supplies from local supermarkets. This project will continue these activities by providing 1,000 households with monthly store-cards for a further four months. The project will also support 28 small bakery, restaurant and grocery store owners to improve access to food services in their communities. A total of 5,800 individuals will benefit from this response.
