Emergency Relief and Development Overseas (ERDO) is supporting its local implementing partner on a food assistance project in the Ibb Governate of the Republic of Yemen.
Nine years of civil conflict has resulted in widespread civilian casualties, protracted large-scale displacement, economic decline, marginalization, and discriminatory norms (especially in the North). In 2024, 17.6 million people are facing food and nutrition insecurity (IPC 3 or 4), and alarmingly high malnutrition rates, with nearly half of all children under five suffering from moderate to severe stunting. Around 50% of surveyed households in Yemen adopted extremely negative food-coping strategies. Marginalized communities (‘Muhammasheen’), people with disabilities, and women and girls are particularly affected by the ongoing food crisis as they additionally suffer from limited rights in decision-making, restricted access to money and food, and discrimination.
The project will provide in-kind food assistance of 96 kg of food per household per month for six months. The project is aiming to reach 8,613 individuals in 1,325 households.
