Tearfund Canada is supporting Tearfund South Sudan with a four-month food assistance project in Aweil East County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal, South Sudan.
In Northern Bahr El Ghazal, acute food insecurity is expected to worsen in the coming months, with widespread areas likely to experience emergency (IPC phase 4) outcomes. Several factors contribute to the current food insecurity: flooding has damaged homes and reduced crop yields, while the ongoing civil war in Sudan has forced over 720,000 Sudanese refugees into South Sudan.
In response, Tearfund South Sudan will provide three months of in-kind food transfers to vulnerable people affected by the conflict. Each month, households will receive a full ration of 105kg of sorghum, 11kgs of beans, 6 liters of oil and 1kg of salt. 7,700 people (1,100 households) are planned to receive this assistance.
