Mennonite Central Committee and Forum for Development Culture and Dialogue (FDCD) are partnering on an in-kind food assistance project in five areas of Syria: Qalamoun, Rural Homs, Rural Hama, Rural Damascus and Sweida.
Syria continues to experience an ongoing crisis in which 16.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance due to: continued conflict; economic problems like high inflation and drastic currency devaluation; the consequences of the February 2023 earthquake; internal displacements of its population, and the general decline of public services.
The project will provide 11 months of monthly food parcels that will include: 8 kg rice, 1 litre olive oil, 3 litres vegetable oil, 500 g of sesame seeds (Halva), 4 kg each of sugar, bulgar and pasta, 2 kg lentils, 1kg tomato paste, 400g canned chicken, and 250g tea. It aims to reach 5,200 households with 27,560 individuals.
