World Renew Canada is supporting Sustainable Association for Taking Human Development Initiatives (SATHI) 3-year agriculture & livelihoods and nutrition project in four unions of Teknaf Upazilla in Cox’s Bazar District, Bangladesh.

The communities have been affected by an influx of Rohingya refugees, which has led to competition for work and resources, gender-based violence, a damaging cyclone and security concerns due to an increase in illegal drug-related activities.

The initial phase of this project (#2929) was implemented from January 2021 to December 2023. This second phase of the project will continue to increase the food security by building the capacity of local groups, making links with government services, supporting peer farmer groups, strengthening local markets, and improving sustainable livelihood opportunities. The project will also address gender equality and women’s empowerment, nutrition, food consumption habits, hygiene practices, access to safe water and sanitary latrines, and disaster risk reduction. The second phase will target 3,464 households, with 6,123 direct participants and 18,800 people reached. Of these, 3,014 households will be continuing from the first phase (#2929) and 450 households will be newly added.
