Canadian Lutheran World Relief is supporting Lutheran World Federation – South Sudan with a five-month humanitarian response project in three Payams of Twic East County, which include Kongor, Lith, and Nyuak.
According to Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) 2022 for South Sudan, extreme levels of food insecurity and malnutrition, affecting two-thirds of the country’s population, make South Sudan one of the worst food insecurity emergencies in the world. The most recent IPC analysis calls for scaling up humanitarian food assistance in locations where populations are classified in IPC 3, 4 or 5.
In Jonglei State all of the targeted Payams in Twic East County are at IPC 4. Direct cash transfers have been selected for their flexibility and convenience for targeted households. 1,150 of the most vulnerable internally displaced, returnee, and host community households (5,845 individuals) will be targeted by this assistance.
LWF South Sudan will provide four monthly cash transfers to households. The transfer amount for each household will be scaled to the specific number of people per household, ranging from two to eight people per household. A total of C$460,863 will be provided, averaging out to C$100 per household per month.
