The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund is supporting Community World Service Kenya (CWS Kenya) with a five-month food assistance project in North Horr Sub-County, Marsabit County, Kenya.
This project is part of the recent Humanitarian Coalition ‘Horn of Africa Hunger’ appeal. Marsabit County is one of the worst affected counties to be hit by the current drought faced in the Horn of Africa. It is estimated that close to 95% of the population is facing food insecurity, with 30% of the population facing Emergency food insecurity levels (IPC 4).
Working with community advisory committees, CWS Kenya will provide 4 monthly in-kind food transfers to 4,000 of the most vulnerable households – an estimated 20,000 individuals in Turbi and Maikona ward. Each household will receive 50kg maize flour, 10kg beans, 3L vegetable oil, and 500g of salt per month.
In addition, a supplementary feeding transfer of 5kg of corn soy blend (CSB) will be provided monthly (for 4 months) to 1,764 of the selected households who have pregnant and lactating women and children under five years of age to prevent acute malnutrition.
