Emergency Food Assistance

Lead Member: Mennonite Central Committee Canada
People Served: 6,860
Budget: $658,280
Timeline: June 2022 - January 2023

Mennonite Central Committee Canada is supporting Help Channel Burundi with a six-month food assistance project in Rutana and Kirundo Provinces, Burundi.

Households in this region experienced severe hailstorms that destroyed the majority of their crops in December and January 2021 and again between February and May 2022. As the area enters into the main lean season, vulnerable households are facing a severe food gap and a loss of income.

In response, Help Channel Burundi will distribute food and seeds for six months to vulnerable households. In each distribution, households will receive rations of maize, beans, cooking oil and amaranth seed. Households will also receive maize seed and cassava cuttings in time for the planting season.

This project plans to reach 6,860 people (1,200 households) with activities.
