Adventist Development and Relief Agency Canada (ADRA Canada) is supporting Adventist Development and Relief Agency Moldova (ADRA Moldova) with a four-month food assistance project in Vulcanesti, and Cahul, Moldova.

It is estimated that the Ukraine crisis has forced approximately 7.1 million people to be displaced from their homes in Ukraine. The country of Moldova has received over 400,000 of refugees and is struggling to sustain the needs of refugees and host communities. Even before the war in Ukraine, Moldova was already struggling. The country heavily relies on remittances and is vulnerable to climatic and
economic shocks.

In addition to the negative impacts of the COVID-19, the country suffered from drought in 2020, resulting in a 30% reduction in agricultural production and an increased unemployment rate.

In response, ADRA Moldova will provide three-monthly cash transfers to refugees that they can use to purchase food and essential needs from local markets. A onetime cash transfer will also be provided to host households (those hosting two or more refugees). 1,785 households (approximately 5,263 individuals) are planned to receive this assistance.
