Mennonite Central Committee Canada is supporting Episcopal Church of South Sudan – South Sudanese development and Relief Agency (ECSS-SSUDRA) with a ten-month humanitarian food assistance project in Rubkona and Bentieu municipalities, South Sudan.
Food insecurity remains high and continues to deteriorate in these regions due to extreme flooding that hit the region in late 2021, continued insecurity and conflict, COVID-19, and the persistent poor macroeconomic conditions. The combination of these conditions has led to over 60% of the population facing crisis (IPC 3) or worse food insecurity.
In response, ECSSS SUDRA will provide monthly in-kind food rations for ten-months to vulnerable internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnee and community households. Each month, households will receive rations of pulses, sorghum, beans, salt and cooking oil. A cash transfer will also be provided to households to mill their sorghum to increase its uses.
800 households (approximately 3,071 individuals) will receive this assistance.
