World Renew Canada is supporting Church of Uganda, Nebbi Diocese with a five-year agriculture and livelihoods project in Padwot Sub Country, Nebbi District, Uganda.
Farming and income-generating activities are the main forms of livelihoods in Nebbi, but the situation assessment found that there are seven months of inadequate food supply, and the local environment has become degraded to the point where agricultural production has threatened community food security.
In addition, gender dynamics are an important factor contributing to food insecurity. Nebbi Diocese will work with 1,800 households over the five-year project (7,740 individuals). These households will be organized into 90 self-help groups. The self-help groups will be the foundation for agricultural training through farmer field schools and village savings and loans activities.
Additionally, the gender justice and environmental protection and conservation training will be conducted through these groups.
