Canadian Lutheran World Relief is supporting Lutheran World Federation Venezuela (LWF Venezuela) with a seven-month food assistance response in Cumaná, the capital city of Venezuela’s Sucre State.
Venezuela is facing a complex humanitarian crisis caused by political and economic instability that has resulted in unemployment, deterioration of essential services and high food insecurity rates. Sucre state has been identified as a Priority 1 response area due to high levels of food insecurity and the increased presence of armed groups which is increasing household vulnerability.
In response, LWF Venezuela will provide six months of monthly in-kind food assistance to vulnerable households. The project will be implemented through two nutritional centers operating in Catholic churches in Cumaná. Each month households will receive food kits containing maize and wheat flour, rice, pasta, beans, eggs, sardines, sugar, oil, margarine, and salt. 234 households (936 people) are planned to receive this assistance.
