Timeline: August 2021 - March 2022

World Renew is supporting ZOA Refugee Care Colombia with a 7.5 month humanitarian food assistance project in La Guajira and Arauca Departments, Colombia.

Due to the high number of refugees and migrants residing in and transiting through Colombia’s border regions, an estimated 94,750 people in Arauca and 438,809 people in La Guajira departments are in need of food assistance. The impact of COVID-19 is disproportionally affecting vulnerable populations.

In response, ZOA will distribute cash-based food vouchers in order to address acute food insecurity caused by the Venezuelan refugee crisis. For six months, 1,140 vulnerable households will receive a monthly cash voucher of up to 370,000 Colombian Pesos (approximately $123 CDN). Voucher amounts will be adjusted according to household size and can only be redeemed in local shops for food items. To ensure the safety and security of recipients during the pandemic, voucher distributions will be spread throughout the month to reduce crowding in shops.

6,156 people (1,140 households) will receive monthly cash vouchers.
