Tearfund Canada is supporting Tearfund South Sudan to implement a project in Kajo Keji county in the Central Equatoria region of South Sudan. Kajo Keji has significant untapped agricultural potential and favourable climatic conditions, but experiences a high level of food insecurity due to conflict and displacement.
COVID-19 has also impacted Kajo Keji by limiting cross-border trade, closing schools, and contributing to increased food prices. The project aims to provide food assistance through commodity vouchers to 1,100 households. It will also provide agricultural inputs to increase production and restore livelihoods for 1,000 households, facilitate the developing of savings and loans groups, provide business training for alternative livelihoods, and address gender inequalities and gender-based violence by drawing on Tearfund’s Transforming Masculinities curriculum. This project also includes the distribution of seed kits to 6,000 households. This phase of the project will reach 6,000 people.
