Tearfund Canada is supporting Wolaita Kale Heywot Church Terepeza Development Association with a three-year agriculture and livelihoods project in Hobicha Woreda of Wolaita Zone.

Hunger, poverty, and gender inequality are the major challenges communities face in these regions. Many families rely on farming to earn a living, but lack knowledge about good agricultural practices and are farming on overworked soil.

This project is responding by providing trainings in sustainable agriculture techniques. Notably, this includes trainings in conservation agriculture, which encourages soil cover, minimum soil disturbance and crop rotation. Project staff are also bringing farmers together to learn about marketing their crops, and organizing community self-help groups. This project aims to reach 5,000 households (about 30,000 people).
