Mennonite Central Committee is continuing to support Forum for Development, Culture and Dialogue with a further 12-months of food assistance in various regions in Syria, totaling $3.7 million.
The war in Syria is continuing into its ninth year, causing destruction and suffering with little regard for human life. Although hostilities have reduced in most parts of Syria, the poor economic situation continues to deteriorate.
As of January 2019, an estimated 6.7 million people in Syria experienced hunger, while 4.5 million people were found to be at risk for food insecurity.
Through this project, 6,000 war-displaced households (about 33,000 people) are receiving a monthly food basket of rice, bulgur, spaghetti, chickpeas, lentils, vegetable oil, olive oil, sugar, salt, canned meat, tea and tomato sauce.
