ADRA Canada is supporting ADRA Kenya with the final year of a four-year agriculture and livelihoods project in Dandu and Takaba divisions of Mandera West District.

Mandera West is one of the poorest districts in Kenya with absolute poverty of 65%.

Food security is a chronic problem in the district due to low, unreliable rainfall and sporadic droughts.

This phase of the project is focusing on enhancing the rehabilitation and management of pastoral grazing rangeland.

The project is promoting a system of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration to help rehabilitate pastoral grazing rangeland.

Pastoral Field Schools are being established in each target community and are acting as a platform for livestock based interventions in fodder production, marketing and rangeland management.

This project is benefitting 3,647 people.
