Just Food Art Activity

This activity is meant to inspire students to create artwork or creative writing based on an emotional and intellectual response to issues around hunger, food and human rights.

Photos of students’ art and their writing can be sent to the Public Engagement department foodjustice@foodgrainsbank.ca.

Learning Objectives:

  • To help youth understand the different concepts concerning the human right to food and to engage them in the ideas and attitudes that enable them to see the right to food as an important tool to end hunger.
  • To encourage students to use art or creative writing as a way to understand and express complex issues.

Skills: Critical thinking, reading comprehension, art appreciation, art creation or creative writing.
Recommended time: 1-2 hours
Recommended grade level: Grades 8 to Post-Secondary, ages 14-adult.
Subjects: Social studies, global issues, language arts, visual arts, Bible study
