All these contributions help us move together toward a world without hunger and make a big difference to the people who can go to sleep without a worry of what they will eat the next day.

The annual Make a Difference Auction in support of Canadian Foodgrains Bank will take place at Abby Stockyard in Abbotsford BC on March 14.

“It’s a fantastic way for all the local farmers to play a part in helping to end hunger by doing what they do best – raising beef and poultry and growing an abundance of fruits and vegetables,” says Rob Brandsma, who along with his team of dedicated volunteers, heads up the auction.

“It’s amazing what our community can accomplish when we work together,” he says.

Farmers can donate cattle, or any farm-related item. Past donation items have included everything from fresh blueberries, to a wheel of gouda cheese to even a lawn tractor.

The event starts at 10 a.m. at Abby Stockyard in Abbotsford, with a silent and general auction. Lunch is generously provided by RBC Royal Banks and is available at 12 p.m., and the cattle auction begins at approx. 12:30 p.m.

Proceeds from this year’s auction will be used to provide emergency food for people suffering from ongoing wars in South Sudan and Syria. They will also be used to help people who regularly experience hunger in East Africa improve their farming methods and ultimately grow more food to better provide for their families.

“We are beyond grateful for tireless contributions of volunteers, the donation of the stockyard, the people who come out and bid, and of course, all the farmers who donate cattle, supplies,& merchandise,” says Musu Taylor-Lewis, Foodgrains Bank director of resource and public engagement.

“All these contributions help us move together toward a world without hunger and make a big difference to the people who can go to sleep without a worry of what they will eat the next day.”

There’s still time to make a donation! To donate for the auction or to see how you can get involved, email brandsma.rob@gmail.com, or bogob@shaw.ca, or call 604.834.4435.
