the Kishapu district of Tanzania, farmers struggle to transform their
barren plots of land into healthy crops of maize and sorghum. Frequent
droughts and poor soil quality make it difficult to grow enough food or
earn a living. Because there is not enough healthy food to eat, many
children are undernourished.

Thursday, December 20, 2012 - Alberta Couple sees the effect of Foodgrains Bank programs first-hand

“This is what it’s all about, for us–this is why we do what we do with our growing project year after year.”
That’s what Wendy and John Taekema of Leduc, AB said after seeing
first-hand Canadian Foodgrains Bank-supported projects in Kenya and
Rwanda in November and December 2012.
The Taekema’s were part of a group of 12 participants on the annual
Foodgrains Bank Food Study Tour, which this year visited Foodgrains
Bank-supported projects administered by member agencies World Renew,
Canadian Baptist Ministries and Mennonite Central Committee.

Wednesday, December 19, 2012 - Canadian Foodgrains Bank Commits $115,000 to provide emergency food rations to over 10,000 people
Families affected by the November 7 earthquake in Guatemala are
receiving emergency food assistance through Presbyterian World Service
and Development and Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
The assistance, valued at $115,000, will provide a one-month ration of
maize, beans, oil, incaparina (a special food designed to prevent
protein-deficiency diseases, particularly in children), sugar, and salt
to 1,580 families in 77 rural communities.

Tuesday, December 18, 2012 - Back in the 1970s, when When Martha Munz Gue taught home economics in
Africa, she didn’t expect the experience to grow into an annual dinner
celebrating World Food Day and raising funds for Canadian Foodgrains
Bank.
The seeds that were planted as she taught grew into an annual event in
Medicine Hat, where people from the community gather for a dinner to
raise money to help end hunger. This year’s dinner sat over 100 people
and raised $1,400 for the Foodgrains Bank.
