Josiah Neufeld has won a 2016 Amnesty International Canada Media Award in the Local/Alternative Print category.
Neufeld traveled to Bangladesh last year as part of the Foodgrains Bank’s Good Soil campaign to write about the effects of climate change in Bangladesh.
His winning article “Hell and High Water“, was published in The United Church Observer on April 1, 2016.
According to judge Sue Montgomery, “Josiah Neufeld puts a human face on the real impact of climate change on the people of Bangladesh – one of the world’s nations most vulnerable to rising temperatures. His piece details the daily struggle of climate refugees and their pleas for wealthy nations to reduce carbon emissions in order that they may survive.”
