Short Video on Sahel now Available

Tuesday, August 28, 2012 - A short video on how the Foodgrains Bank is responding in west Africa's Sahel region is now available. With over 18 million people at risk of hunger in the region, the Foodgrains Bank has committed $10 million to help people in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.

New Nova Scotia Regional Coordinator Appointed

Tuesday, August 28, 2012 - Brenda Leenders, a public health nutritionist from Truro, Nova Scotia, has been appointed the new Canadian Foodgrains Bank regional coordinator for that province.

Leenders, who attends Truro’s Immanuel Baptist Church, replaces Rev. Randy Crozsman of Kentville, who served in that position since 2007.

Canadians Believe Climate Change is Happening

Friday, August 24, 2012 - Canadians overwhelmingly believe climate change is taking place, according to a new poll. Only 2 percent of those participating in the online survey stated that climate change is not happening at all.

The online poll also showed that the majority of Canadians take climate change seriously—82% of respondents said they were somewhat or very concerned about climate change globally, and just a slightly lower percentage saw it as a concern here in Canada.

For Sara Doua of Kimparana, Mali, receiving a three-month ration means she no longer has to go door-to-door asking her neighbours for food.

“It has been at least five months since I have seen this much food in my house,” she said of the 135 kilos of maize, 25 kilos of beans, and nine litres of oil she received through a recent Canadian Foodgrains Bank-supported food distribution.

Team from Central Nova Scotia running to raise money for Canadian Foodgrains Bank

 
When Lynn Erskine lines up to run the Coastal 5K and Marathon at this year’s Maritime Race Weekend in Halifax, N.S., he'll be running to help people who are affected by drought in Rwanda.

Erskine, Associate Pastor of Worship and Mission at Truro’s Immanuel Baptist Church, is using the mid-September event to raise funds for Canadian Foodgrains Bank, a partnership of 15 churches and church organizations working together to end global hunger.
