Monday, August 30, 2010 - "We're happy to do this because we are called to love other people
regardless of who they are," Moussa*, a volunteer helping with the
subsidized grain sale, told Christian Reformed World Relief Committee
(CRWRC) staff.
Moussa himself is a beneficiary of CRWRC’s emergency food distribution
in Niger. In the face of crippling drought, CRWRC, is working with a
local organization to make grain available to about 10,000 people
through sales of grain at subsidized prices and by increasing the stock
of cereal banks. Due to his harvest and family sizes, Moussa had been
one of the individuals selected to purchase grain at a much-subsidized
price the week before.

Thursday, July 29, 2010 - This beautiful earth sustains us, and
whether or not we recognize the mysteries of all living and non-living
things, God is indeed present in them. The act of producing food
is one of the best ways to reflect on the secrets of creation. We too
often forget that creation is a constant activity of God rather than a
single moment when God formed the world, wound it up and set it in
motion.
This year's Fast for Change
materials focus on food production and call us into deeper relationship
with God, the earth, and our communities. The new prayer and
reflection booklet, 7 Days to Tend the Earth, has a piece of original
art, a prayer, a fact, and a suggestion for a small change for each
day. Order
booklets for yourself a small group at no cost to you.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010 - What do you do when you rely on your herd of cattle and goats to make
a living, and there is no water or grass to feed them because of
drought? What do you do when this is the third year in a row that you
and your community have faced this situation, and more than 99% of your
livestock have already died? These are the tough questions facing
thousands of families right now in southwestern and central Kenya, where
years of drought have wiped out animal populations and left people with
few options for food and income.
